Ukraine has received permission to open fire on Russian military targets on their territory using American weapons. The US Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, has reportedly granted this approval, as reported by The New York Times (NYT) citing American officials. The newspaper stated that "US officials now say they expect the first counterattacks using American weapons to begin within hours or days."
Earlier, the Pentagon confirmed that President Joe Biden had authorized the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) to strike Russian forces in the Kharkiv region with long-range weapons. However, it was emphasized that Washington's policy regarding the prohibition of using long-range ATACMS missiles for "strikes at larger distances within Russia" remains unchanged.
