Holthinrichs, a French independent brand founded in 2016, has recently unveiled their newest project called the Ornament Nouveau. This project fills the void left by the brand's transition to a more accessible price point with their Signature Collection. The new project, Holthinrichs Haute Horlogerie, allows the brand to pursue their most ambitious ideas and create truly high-end timepieces.
The Ornament Nouveau is the first watch under this new banner and it is unlike anything the brand has attempted before. The defining characteristic of the watch is its sculptural design, which is not only present in the case and dial, but also in the movement itself. This is a realization of a long-standing design goal for brand founder Michiel Holthinrichs.
The movement of the Ornament Nouveau is described as in-house and measures only 4mm thick. It has been created through partnerships with Dutch precision manufacturers and Swiss suppliers. The movement has been designed to maximize visual depth through hand finishing and an architecture that complements the curves of the case. The main plate is available in four custom galvanic treatments, while the steel bridges add to the three-dimensional qualities of the caliber.
The dial of the Ornament Nouveau is also quite special. It is described as UV sensitive and made from a photochromic material. The dial turns dark gray when exposed to UV light, allowing the wearer to view the movement underneath.
The Ornament Nouveau is a limited series of 20 pieces and has a retail price of CHF 67,138. To promote this project, Holthinrichs has created a special Instagram feed.
This new project by Holthinrichs demonstrates their commitment to pushing the boundaries of watchmaking and creating truly unique and high-quality timepieces. The Ornament Nouveau is a testament to their ambition and dedication to craftsmanship.
