Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin has presented his latest creation, the ThinKing Prototype 2, at the Geneva Watch Days exhibition. These mechanical watches, with a thickness of just 1.65 mm, have set a new record as the thinnest in the world, surpassing the previous record held by Bulgari at 1.7 mm.
Chaykin was inspired to create ultra-thin watches after a client expressed interest in such a design. He tackled the challenge by using a special type of stainless steel and incorporating reinforcing ribs to increase the strength of the case. The watch also features a specially designed strap for added protection.
The ThinKing Prototype 2 achieves its slim profile by making structural modifications. For example, it eliminates the barrel wheel and cover, while still maintaining excellent performance. The watch also has a reduced spring thickness and a power reserve of 32 hours.
