New diamond-studded powdery pink and blue dials replace the classic tachymeter scale on the Carrera Chronograph Glassbox editions by TAG Heuer. The Carrera watch, originally designed by Jack Heuer in 1963, has been a timeless racing-inspired chronograph for the last 62 years. To mark its 60th anniversary, TAG Heuer has released these special editions adorned with diamonds.
The new models feature a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o'clock and a 12-hour totalizer at 9 o'clock. Both counters have silver frames and circular snailed interiors. The running seconds sub-dial at 6 o'clock does not have a counter but is indicated by printed markings. The 39mm stainless steel case of the Carrera Chronograph Glassbox editions maintains the signature faceted lugs of the original Carrera and has a thickness of 13.86mm. The case is water-resistant up to 100m and has a combination of vertical-brushed finishes and polished surfaces.
Unlike previous models, the new Carrera Chronograph Glassbox editions forgo the tachymeter numerals on the flange and instead showcase 72 brilliant-cut diamonds. The domed sapphire crystal, which rises above the case, produces unique distortions and allows the diamonds to be admired from all angles. The flange also features 11 diamond indices set in chatons and a rectangular framed date window at 6 o'clock. The hour and minute hands of the watches have a luminescent insert for visibility in low light.
The Carrera Chronograph Glassbox editions are powered by the updated Heuer 02 automatic movement, which features bi-directional winding, a vertical clutch, and a column wheel. With a power reserve of 80 hours, this movement can be seen through the screw-down sapphire crystal caseback. The blue dial model is paired with a dark blue alligator strap, while the powdery pink dial model comes with a matching calfskin strap. Both straps have a pearlescent finish and an interchangeable system.
