Movado recently unveiled a new limited-edition capsule collection in collaboration with American artist Derrick Adams. The collection includes five wristwatches and two wall clocks, featuring Adams' unique artwork. This partnership marks a departure for Movado, as they have not previously incorporated art into their watch designs.
The base watches in the collection are Movado's 40mm-wide steel, quartz movement-based Museum Dial watches, each coated in a different color. The dials showcase Adams' existing compositions, with the strap seamlessly integrated into the overall design. On most models, additional artwork is applied to the strap. However, while the idea of incorporating popular art onto watch dials is intriguing, it is more intellectually stimulating when artists create new works specifically designed for the size and purpose of a wristwatch dial.
